Guardian and Ocean Infinity announce partnership to deliver ASVs and AUVs to APAC region

20 September 2018: GUARDIAN GEOMATICS PRESS RELEASE

Today, Guardian Geomatics and sister company Guardian Offshore announced the establishment of a partnership with global seabed intelligence provider Ocean Infinity. The partnership has been created with the first aim being to deliver a fleet of Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASV) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) to the Asia Pacific region, for the Oil and Gas, Government and Defence markets.

Less than 15% of the worlds ocean floor has been mapped accurately, and while large, fully manned vessels mapping the ocean floor are expensive to operate, employing autonomous vehicles significantly lowers the risk, cost and data delivery times involved. Additionally, the combined effects of climate change and shipping requirements means many areas need to be mapped, sometimes for the first time.

Although Government programs in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the South West pacific are now beginning to address these needs, Guardian and Ocean Infinity are ready to assist.

Following ground-breaking research and development, a team with vast experience mapping the world’s oceans and a commitment to delivering in a cost efficient manner is now able to reveal a world leading autonomous survey capability. Ocean Infinity and Guardian have industry-leading experience in complementary areas of leading edge technology. This enables vast areas to be surveyed efficiently and safely using autonomous technology.

Together, the Guardian and Ocean Infinity partnership has extensive experience working with commercial and government agencies, vessel operations, environmental, geophysics, hydrographic surveying, cloud-based processing and reporting. Bringing a fleet of autonomous vehicles coupled to new-build motherships, the Ocean Infinity and Guardian partnership sets a new benchmark in capability and capacity to the Asia Pacific region.

Guardian Managing Directors Darren Kolln and Paul Kennedy stated, “This partnership demonstrates the long term investment, commitment and industry leadership of Ocean Infinity and Guardian to meet strategic requirements of mapping and understanding the marine environment while significantly reducing the environmental footprint of surveying.”

Ocean Infinity, CEO Oliver Plunkett said, “Today’s announcement marks another milestone in Ocean Infinity’s development. Collaborating with the Guardian team will ensure that we can meet the continuing strong demand for subsea technological solutions that deliver better results, faster and more economically. We look forward to working alongside the Guardian team, and to keeping the market appraised of our ongoing progress.”

The fleet of vehicles will be arriving Q4 2018.
